Many of you are already using Insight and will be familiar with it as a tool for recording and tracking pupil progress across the curriculum. Insight can be used with a wide range of assessment frameworks, including those developed by schools themselves and by curriculum and assessment partners.

RE presents a particular challenge for assessment because schools work with a wide variety of locally agreed syllabuses, curricula and schemes of work. While a number of RE assessment frameworks are already available in Insight, there is scope for an accessible framework that is not tied to a particular published curriculum or scheme.

I've therefore developed a new, free set of RE progression statements for Years 1–6 to support the assessment of RE. Drawing on my work on the Leicester and Lincolnshire syllabuses, the framework is based around key concepts in Religion and Worldviews and is designed to be flexible enough to work alongside different curricula and approaches.

The framework includes progression statements setting out key learning, together with guidance to support teachers in making judgements about pupils’ understanding. There are also examples of summative assessment tasks for each year group, linked to the judgement statements.

For schools wanting additional support, I will also be providing further guidance, training and additional assessment materials directly through Dare to Ask RE.

We are still in the early stages of developing and testing this work, and I may be inviting some schools to help pilot the framework. Watch this space!
