Thursday November 20th : Pedagogy: how to develop effective thinking and questioning

The emphasis during this day is on how to teach RE, with an emphasis upon the development of thinking and questioning skills. I will be taking an approach based on ideas from Philosophy for Children (of which some of you will have fond memories). This emphasises the role of teacher as facilitator (i.e. guiding the pupils towards more independent learning) and examines different types of questioning. These skills can be transferred to other curriculum subjects and are key to developing oracy. This is a VERY practical, interactive, hands-on day – and will give you lots of ideas to take back to school.

Venue

Both training days will take place at Soar Valley College, Gleneagles Avenue, Leicester, LE4, 7GY. You will need to provide your own lunch but drinks and snacks will be available throughout the day.

Cost

£150 per training day, £270 if you book both sessions.

Secondary schools

Support will be provided mainly through termly CLARET (City of Leicester Association of Religious Education teachers) meetings. Schools can also request 1-1 support online or face to face.
